Cultural Center hosts the International Day of Reflection on Genocide in Rwanda
On April 14, the Cultural Center hosted a diplomatic reception of the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda on the occasion of the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The events that happened in the country in 1994 claimed the lives of about a million people in four months.
The evening opened with the performance of the national anthems of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Rwanda. Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda in the Russian Federation, noted that both the Rwandans and the entire international community should learn from the tragedy that happened 29 years ago.
Vsevolod Tkachenko, Deputy Director of the Department of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, emphasized that the memories of the bloody events remain an unhealed wound in the hearts of millions of people around the world.
The guests of the event were shown a documentary film dedicated to the heroes of the civil war in Rwanda. The foyer of the Cultural Center housed a photo exhibition that tells its visitors about the history of the Tutsi genocide and its consequences.
