GlavUpDK head Alexey Izotov meets with Tunisian Ambassador Mohammed Al-Schikhi
Head of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia Alexey Izotov had a working meeting with Tunisian Ambassador Mohammed Al-Schikhi on June 1.
The head of the Tunisian diplomatic mission, who had taken the position recently, demonstrated a keen interest in the history and fundamental areas of the GlavUpDK activity.
The interlocutors discussed a number of issues concerning the accommodation and functioning of the Tunisian Embassy in Moscow and prospective cooperation in the renovation of the mansion on Malaya Nikitskaya Street leased by the Tunisian Embassy.
The mansion at 28/1, Malaya Nikitskaya Street was built in 1884 for Moscow city head S.A. Tarasov by architect V.N. Karneyev. The Bakakin-Mindovsky family bought the mansion in 1911. The mansion was renovated by architect Adolf Erichson in that period. The compound designed in the neo-Classic style comprised the master mansion with a garden and a tenement building. On the whole, it was a large city residence with a garden overlooking the Garden Ring. Interestingly, Lavrentiy Beria took residence in the Bakakin mansion in the late 1930s and lived there until his death in 1953. Currently, the mansion’s interior features the early 20th century style: the doors are decorated with crystal glass, and there are bronze sculptures standing in consoles of the solid marble stairs. The building also boasts gilded mirrors, remarkable stucco work on the ceiling and antique furniture.
