Cultural Center hosts a reception marking the Rwanda Liberation and Independence Day

On the occasion of the Rwanda Liberation and Independence Day, the Cultural Center hosted a diplomatic reception. On July 4, this national holiday is widely celebrated by both the Rwanda population and the Rwandan community living in Russia. In 1994, a tragedy occurred in the country that became a terrible chapter in human history: more than a million people, the overwhelming majority of whom were Tutsi, were brutally murdered in less than three months.

The reception was officially opened by Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda in the Russian Federation. He told the guests about the events happened in those years and paid obeisance to the Russian Federation, expressing his gratitude to the country for assistance and involvement.

Vsevolod Igorevich Tkachenko, Director of the Department of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, delivered a welcoming speech. “Despite all the difficulties, over the past years, Rwanda has achieved great success in upholding peace and security in the country. Rwanda’s progress and development are worth respecting. The peoples of our countries have always warmly welcomed each other. Our meaningful political dialogue confirms the commitment of our countries to the principles of international law based on the UN Charter,” he addressed the guests.

The atmosphere of the event held at the Cultural Center demonstrated the hospitality and originality of Rwandan culture.
